Alexander Scott & Son Ltd has been trading since the early 1900s on the Main Street of Maghera. It began as a general merchant then was converted to a retail shop from an old dwelling house. Alexander Scott & Son Ltd has a history of consecutive expansion within the town of Maghera. Although it traded under this name, and still does today, it is best known by many as Scotts.

Coolnaslee is the Crawfords family farm. 300 acres set on the outskirts of Maghera. The Crawford family have farmed here for over 200 years. Gilbert Crawford was a keen cattleman with particular interest in the Charolais Breed. He was chairman of the British Charolais society for many years and hosted the world Charolais congress at Coolnaslee in 2010. Coolnaslee is now mainly Aberdeen Angus breed. It rears all the grass fed females for our butchery team at Crawford’s. Coolnaslee is high welfare farm with lots of straw bedding pens in winter and grass pasture in warmer months.
